Conformation of a polymer chain in certain mixed solvents

چکیده

2014 In a solvent mixture AB close to a critical (demixing) point Tc, there should exist an indirect interaction between two solute monomers (C1 C2), which is attractive and of long range (the range being the correlation length 03BE of the AB system). Close to the critical point, the interaction is of the Coulomb form (but reversed in sign). The competition between this attraction and conventional short range repulsions leads to an anomalous size for the solute chain near Tc ; this could be probed through viscometric measurements. Solution‐crystallization and related phenomena in 9,9‐dialkyl‐fluorene polymers. II. Influence of side‐chain structure

Solution-crystallization is studied for two polyfluorene polymers possessing different side-chain structures. Thermal analysis and temperature-dependent optical spectroscopy are used to clarify the nature of the crystallization process, while X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy reveal important differences in the resulting microstructures. It is shown that the planar-zigzag chain...

Effect of the solvent on the conformation of isolated MEH-PPV chains intercalated into SnS2.

Photophysical processes in conjugated polymers are influenced by two competing effects: the extent of excited state delocalization along a chain, and the electronic interaction between chains. Experimentally, it is often difficult to separate the two because both are controlled by chain conformation. Here we demonstrate that it is possible to modify intra-chain delocalization without inducing i...

Real-time observation of conformational switching in single conjugated polymer chains

Conjugated polymers (CPs) are an important class of organic semiconductors that combine novel optoelectronic properties with simple processing from organic solvents. It is important to study CP conformation in solution to understand the physics of these materials and because it affects the properties of solution-processed films. Single-molecule techniques are unique in their ability to extract ...

Small Angle Neutron Scattering Study of Conformation of Oligo(ethylene glycol)-Grafted Polystyrene in Dilute Solutions: Effect of the Backbone Length

The conformation and clusterization of comblike polymers of polystyrene densely grafted with oligo(ethylene glycol) (OEG) side chains in 1.0 wt % solutions of D2O, toluene-d8, and methanol-d4 was investigated as a function of the degree of polymerization (DP) of the backbone by small angle neutron scattering (SANS). Each side chain had four EG repeat units, and the DP of the polystyrene backbon...

Controlling Morphology and Aggregation in Semiconducting Polymers: The Role of Solvents on Lasing Emission in Poly[2-methoxy-5-(2′-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene-vinylene]

Systematic experiments were performed to investigate solvent-dependent morphology and aggregation of the semiconducting polymer film poly[2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene-vinylene] (MEH-PPV), which was span-cast from nonaromatic strong polarity solvents tetrahydrofuran (THF), trichloromethane (TCM) and aromatic weak polarity solvents chlorobenzene (CB), toluene, and p-xylene. The r...
